Hello, I am still running a LinkStation LS-V1 Pro with MacOS (Intel).  I am replacing my current Mac with the new Mac Mini M1.

I am interested in knowing if I will be able to access my NAS through NAS Navigator on the M1, also I am concerned that security updates are being pushed to the NAS any longer as my network security software reports that this model is vulnerable and I don't have any patches or updates to install from Buffalo.  The latest firmware update is 12/15/20 but only for Windows or Mac (Intel) systems.

Am I better off to part with this model that I purchased in 2011?  I have a QNAP NAS I use for 90% of my data and multimedia data.  I've have used the LinkStation for many years with a good set of music files that have had prebuilt playlists set for years and I've not wanted to disturb the structure!

You can generally do all the management through the web interface, so NasNavigator isn't strictly necessary.

You'll probably run into separate issues connecting to it since it only supports SMBv1 which is disabled on modern OS's. There are other posts on this forums with ways to connect to the command line and enable SMBv2. As you noted though the firmware probably won't get many more updates and the older software will likely develop security concerns (though those scanner programs usually have a lot of false positives).

One solution to security and compatibility issues is to replace the stock firmware with the latest version of Debian Linux:
