Issue with AT&T router and HD-CELU2 1.0TB. Slow backup and file exchange. Won't open ppt on the drive. transferring via LAN takes FOREVER. AT&T no help in changing settings. Is there something else I can do? Oh and won't accept serial number for firmware update.

There are no specific settings that will you will be able to change to speed up the transfer rates.  The only thing you can do is upgrade your router to a wireless n or a switch.  But for the cost of upgrading the hardware will not be cost efficient for the small increase in transfer rates.  If it is going to be dedicated to the network I would recommend a linkstation live chl or a ls pro duo.

Also: the device needs to be in fat32 for it to be a nas, so that is a reason why it is a little slower then our xfs file format dedicated lan devices.

Nevermind. Figured it out. Thanks.

This is NOT a fast NAS drive nor it is a fast USB drive either even with Turbo USB.  You need a Gigabit router, and you also need a NAS drive from Buffalo that supports Gigabit too plus a fast processor with lots of ram.  This means, you need to spend quite a bit more money if you expect to have near USB transfers.  I had briefly tested the Linkstation Live and Pro and they are in no way in the same league as my Synology server that I have now.  Again, what is your expectation of fast?  I returned the Linkstation Live and swapped it with the Flexnet drive as our 2nd network backup drive for our computer network.  It works in conjunction with our Synology server which is the main server.

The Flexnet drive works really well backing up files using SyncBack or Ge-soft Time Line (PC equivalent of Apple's Time Machine).  I have it set up with my Buffalo WHR-G300N at 300mbps N speed and the backup speed is good.  Syncing 40Gb stuff is not problem albeit patiently slow.  The only limitation is the FAT 32 file format which is needed to make the NAS side work, but due to the limitation of the 4Gb file size, it can not serve our other computers that need to exceed the 4Gb file size limitation, journaling and maintaining permission levels.

Use USB first to copy the big files FIRST and then use SyncBack to update the modified files later.
