How to diagnose fault network card on Terastation?

Hi, I've got a Terastation TS_1 TGL/R5  and I suspect its network controller to be faulty .

I don't know much about networks,  I've got a Gigabit Ethernet configured with a simple workgroup, and I think the Terastation kinds of disrupts the network.

It happens relatively often that my workstation runs out of network resources, I can't get new connections to the web with a browser, I can't connect to ftp or mail.

If I reboot the workstation the problem goes away for a while.

If I disconnect the Terastation, the problem doesn't occur.

I got a second Terastation which stays connected, no problem.

Another hint is that when I try to boot the suspect Terastation, it takes 20 to 30 tries to get it up, it would otherwise quit with error 21, "ethernet error".

Now, how can I diagnose that this really is the problem (because if the Terastation is up, I can access files just fine).

And secondly, if this is the problem, is there anything I can do to prevent this to disrupt my network?

Try plugging directly into the device with an ethernet cable (no crossover cable necessary). See if the program sees it then. You may need to set a static IP address on the computer for any real communication to take place, but the Navigator should still see it. See if you have any ethernet errors after that.

Hi,

the Terastation is currently working and connected to my ethernet network.

All terastations, workstations, printers, etc. have dedicated IP addresses.

There is no problem in transferring files and the navigator, etc. sees it.

I am still suspecting the station's network card to send abnormal traffic into the network, that eventually brings it down.
