HD-HX2.0TU3 firmware update failure

Hi, I was updating my HD-HX2.0TU3 hard drive and have not got it to work properly.  I downloaded the instructions and the zipped file for this model from the Buffalotech site.  It instructed me to ensure I was connected via USB 2.0 instead of 3.0, which I did, making the hard drive LED change from blue to green.  I ran the file it instructed me to run and it ran for about 30 seconds then came back with a message stating "Firmware updated failed".

The hard drive LED then changed to a purple or pink color.  It was also no longer recognized by my computer.  I've attached it to both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports with no success.  I think I just bricked my hard drive.  I did a search on purple LED and pink LED for this model on both Google and this forum with no success.  The manual also does not discuss anything about purple or pink LEDs; only blue and green.

On another note, the firmware update software indicated that it would work with Windows XP, 2000, Vista and 7.  However, I'm running Windows 8 64-bit.  Not sure if that caused the problem.

Any ideas on how to proceed next?

ZOMBIE POST!

I'm replying as I have just today experienced the exact same Firmware Update failure with the same device:

DriveStation HD-HX2.0TU3-US
Serial # 1551140090XXXX [G] [stock Seagate Barracuda LP 2TB ST32000542AS inside]

I retrieved the firmware and instructions [for updating 1.09 to 1.12] via buffalotech.com/support/serial-lookup

I experienced the exact same failure for my (previously untouched) unit as macboat did back in 2013: Only difference is I attempted it using Windows 10 [versus his Windows 8]. All other parameters met: USB2 cable, Green LED, applied v1.12 ["HXU3_112.bin"]. Progress bar completed, then Update Failed error dialog. LED is now "Pink" color. Same question as above:

Any advice on how to recover from this "Pink" LED state? I can't be alone; yes I've contacted Support but hoping to crowdsource for posterity. TIA
