Linkstation Pro Duo - Media Server Won't allow USB disk

I enjoy the UPnP media server in my linkstation pro duo.  However, despite checking the checkbox to "show folders on USB Drives", I cannot share any folders on my 1 TB USB drive.  Anyone succesfully shared a usb drive on the pro duo?  I've tried resetting to factory defaults, upgrading the firmware, and attempting to configure the twonky media server (port 9050).

FW: 3.10

Drive format: XFS (by the NAS)

I can access it just fine over SMB and AFP.  The Media Server can stream (via UPnP) music and video to clients on the network with no problems.

Basically, my problem is that the media server cannot "see" the usb disk.

Am I missing something here?

I appreciate any information on this topic, so thanks in advance.

When you checked the box for the USb folders did you also restart the media server?

mtaylor

I have tried that.

All of the base folders show up for sharing from the internal drives, but none of the USBDISK1 folders do.

Still no dice.  I've even tried resetting the linkstation to factory defaults.  Has anyone been able to do this?  I assume the checkbox is there for a reason?

Try a force firmware with the debug option enabled.

This brings up a new and interesting issue -- the force firmware update method outlined on this forum doesn't seem to work as advertised.  Did something change with the 3.10 firmware package?

EDIT:  I just re-read that and missed the critical step; right click the title bar.  Do'h!  I'm trying the forced update now.

It's still no good.  It may not be related, but I don't seem to be able to create shares from data on the usb disk 1 volume, apart from the root directory of that volume.  Is this normal behavior?

Bump on this topic.

I am having the same problem.

Linkstation Pro Duo with a 1.5TB SeaGate attached via USB. The Seagate is formatted with XFS.

I have tried all the above mentioned steps, with no luck. I still cannot add any folders to be accessed

by the media server.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I thought I was alone on this one and I feel your pain.  As a test, see if it works with a smaller drive.  I seem to be able to get a 500 GB drive to show up in the media server, but not my 1.0TB!

Thanks for the clues mtaylor.

I was able my SeaGate to be accessable via the Media Server.

In the web admin >> Media Server.

For the "Media Folder" choose any listed (they will all be on your main Linkstation)

Check: "show folders on USB drives"

Then Apply.

Restart your media server. Wait for it to become available.

Now start your media extender, ps3 or whatever.

Navigate to the Linkstation and the main shared folder.

Now you should see an extra folder in there named whatever

your USB share is.

In other words, your media folder is still set to the links station,

but your folders on the USB drives are shown inside of the linkstation media folder.

Whew.

Glad to get it working.

Hope you find this helpful.

I'll try your method later tonight.  The strange thing is, with my other (smaller) external hard drive, checking the show usb folders box made the usbdisk1 folder show up in the dropdown box for sharing.
