hello, I have an LS520D, but I had a series of doubts that I will explain;
- Media player does not read subtitles on TV / is not compatible with MKV files.
- I can't access remotely outside my home wifi

I'm no expert on this.  Maybe another user here can help.

I read somewhere here a post by one of the buffalo personnel a long time ago- that by design, the LinkStations do not support MKV, and never will.  And after that, I gave up any attempt at doing DLNA with any Buffalo NAS.  I opted for a HTPC instead.

MKV is definitely is NOT on their list of supported file types.

That said, you'll have to search.  There are other past posts on the forum about it.  DLNA to me is a concept that was a great idea, but just turned out to be quite the failure as a finished product- with all the incompatibility overall between all manufacturers, and the transcoding that must be done to get it working.


I seem to remember renaming some of my mkv files to mp4 would play some them, but not all.  Some of it has to do with the encoding of the file.

The home wifi is probably a routing issue with your router or firewall.  I don't know how to solve that as I don't use remote access.
