When you make the USB drive the target for your backup, Is that supposed to lock the drive so that nothing else can be put into it.  Every time I drag something to that drive it says...

"An unexpected error is preventing the operation.  Error 0x8007045D: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error."

Linkstation is HS-DH500GL

USB Drive is Seagate 750GB

USB Drive has been formatted to XFS

I've been trying for a week to get my backup working correctly...

Where are you dragging the file to the usb?  Are you going through a mapped share?  Network places?  \\IP?

I have the drive mapped. I just tried to run another backup to it last night and no luck.

Try disconnecting from the share, rebooting the computer and then reconnecting to it.

Maybe I should clarify a bit.  I am using the USB drive as a backup for the NAS.  I have created a backup job within the NAS to backup to the USB drive.  It still will not create a backup... the log says that there was an error.  I'm thinking that I may have messed with the USB drive too much and now it isn't functioning at all... hope not. I'll give your suggestions a shot.
