I have a TS5400R and the root/HTML has become corrupted or unusable.  I can't manage it in any way.   file shares are still available.  however, there is a notice on the unit that there is a firmware update for this unit.   I need to reset this back to factory defaults.. don't care about the files on the drives as I've backed them up elsewhere.   since I can't access the OS or HTML root page, how do I reset this back to factory defaults?    I've powered up the unit with the reset button pressed, but the system still comes up using the same static iP I've set.  It doesn't seem to reset anything.

you could try downloading the latest firmware updater and run it. That process isn't dependent on the web interface working and might solve the problem.

You could also connect a monitor and see if it's printing out any error messages that are helpful.

Interestingly enough the exact same thing just happened to mine a few weeks ago. File shares continued to work until a power outage a few nights ago and now I can't access via web ui and NAS Navigator is showing the RAID as unformatted.

Currently away from home but will have my hands full when i get home next week.

The timing is odd though, mine was set to auto-update firmware so I'm wondering if that was the cause.

That's what it seems. Buffalo Tech is breaking our NAS with defective firmwares and there's no way to downgrade as previous versions are not accessible and nobody in Buffalo Tech wants to help.

Another option is to install Debian instead of the stock firmware:
