Hello,

Excuse my poor englsih because i'm a french man

I'm a new user of  TS-RHTGL/R5 F/W 1.33 and i have some small problem with the time of backup. to save just 40 GB i must wait for 5 days. this is not acceptable because i have planned 1 backup of my server each night and if just one backup take 5 days you see the problem.

i resume my network:

2 server with Windows server 2003

1 Switch 10/100/1000 between the servers and the terastaion

I copy the data from the server to the TeraStation

I am having a similar problem.  I am trying to backup the contents of the primary drive to an external USB drive.

Model Name
LS-GL F/W 1.13

HDD Space Used
Disk 1
594.29 GB / 930.59 GB (63.86 %)
USB Disk 1
158.65 GB / 931.39 GB (17.03 %)
It will take DAYS for the internal NAS drive to backup to the external drive.
I have used products like Norton Ghost to store the automatic backup of my work stations to the Linkstation pro and it goes very fast.

@Original Poster:

How are you moving the data from the server(s) to the Terastation?  (copying to a file share? web access uploads?).

Are there any disk-errors on the Terastation?  40GB in days is -very- slow, and doesn't make sense unless...is there other access occuring on the Terastation?

@gpenzenik:

You're comparing a copy that your own original system/server is copying to the Linkstation vs. the Linkstation initiating a copy via USB to an external drive.

USB on the Linkstation uses a lot of the processing power, and when you couple rsync or data copying, the processor of the linkstation is likely maxed out.

If you're moving other data to the Linkstation, I'd advice stopping.

With ~1TB to move I've seen the usb copy take over a day so the 500GB capacity could end up being ~ 24 hours if you're not using the Linkstation during the same time for other uses...

Oh just 1 last thing to add...

If your models have a 'media server' function, disable it as it can periodically scan for media content, which will dramatically slow down your system when running backups.
