Linkstation Pro Duo LS-WTGL/R1 1T Firmware 3.03 Windows XP I tried calling tech support but was on hold for almost 2 hours and when the call SEEMED to be answered, but I was listening to a tech talking to someone else, so I need help big time. I received an error and ran disk check to correct the error. I don't know if it is still running, but the NASNavigator is say my harddrives are unformatted. When I access web admin it gives me a software error that states [BufDiskFormatType._load]File Open Error - /tmp/tmpmount. I'm afraid I have lost everything. Is this normally what happens during disk check? If not, is there a way to recover that data?

PCPiranha

That is not normal during a disk check.  Do you know what error you were receiving?  It may be file corruption.

At first it gave I255: an unknown error and now when I hover over the icon it gives me  I11: The bad sectors of disk 2 reaches emergency level and I14: Checking Raid 1 Array.

I tried to deciper the orange light but it just flashes constantly (no pattern).

I tried to shut it down but it won't shut down.  I turned it to the off position but after half an hour it till hadn't shut down.

What can I do?

Wow, jls, it seems that you have a problem/ multiple problems.  You obviously seem to have bad sectors on disk 2, so the HDD is bad.  A continuous orange flash indicates a MB error.  The error message about formatting the unit usually indicates file corruption.  In any case, the only option I would suggest at this time is an RMA replacement if the unit is still under warranty.

Well, I'm not quite sure what I did, but I decided to unplug the unit and then restarted it holding the function button, released and held it down again, released and then pressed the function button again.  This put it in EM mode and I updated the firmware.  After the update it shows no problems with the unit but I did lose EVERYTHING, which sucks. But I'll see if that fixed it, so even though I lost everything maybe I can use the HDD again.

As PCPiranha noted above, you got a bad sector report.

I'd definately get the warranty work (i.e. RMA) done on this, as it's sure to return and cause you a headache in the future.

Sectors typically don't magically get 'un-bad'.

Also, it might look ok, but it may just be due to a reset in error counters etc.
