Bit torrent web access issue/security

Hi,

 

I have setup my router to give me access to buffalo web config from external which is fine and ask for username password.

 

For some reason why i used my public ip address with port 8080 it give me straight access to the bit torrect site and no username and password. 

 

Just to add i have a linkstation pro ls-XHL

Sounds correct. Port 8080 is used to monitor and configure the bitTorrent client. If you're doing port forwarding of port 80 to the LS-CHL then you will need to specify in your browser address bar:

 

<public IP address>:80

 

This should ensure that you're specifying to the router you want to communicate via port 80 to the public IP address which in turn should take you to your GUI remotely. If this doesn't work I would check your port forwarding settings on your router.

I think there is a confusion on what am trying to say here.

 

In order for me to access my web gui for Buffalo i need to forward port 80 ro public ip address.. which works fine.

 

I was not able to access the bit torrent client and realised i also needed to open up the port 8080 if i wanted to configure anything remotely.

 

But i noticed it does not ask for username password. So if anyone knows my public ip address they could access my bit torrent client on port 8080

This is correct which is why the bitTorrent client isn't meant to be delegated from a remote location. You can but it is ill advised to forward that port to your NAS as you stated.
