Brand new today. Plugged in the unit to my Vista laptop produced no auto install wizard. I went to "my computer" and it's showing the drive to be a CD-ROM and acts as such. I tried it on an XP desktop and same thing. I downloaded the software from Buffalo and it will not run. That message was "A file wasn't able to be opened. It ends." . I'm thinking I have a bumb unit that needs to go back to the store.

Check the Manual.

You shouldn't have to install anything to make this drive work.  If you only see one cdfs partition then there could be something wrong.

I have not installed anything as yet. I checked the device manager on the XP machine and all three device names to be added were added. But when I open " My Computer ", the only thing added is " CD Drive (G:) " and nothing else. The green light on the Buffalo DriveStation is on but no " auto play " when plugged in and no way to access the files on the hard drive.

I have similar problem for my brand new HD-CX1.0TU2 DriveStation.  Plugged in the unit to my Windows XP Pro SP2 (32 bit) desktop and go to "Utility_HD-CXU2" virtual CD.  Double click "DriveNavi.exe" and follow the on-screen instruction to start initial setup.  Click on "yes" to enable encryption.  A DOS box pop up then close and then another pop up box with title "DriveNavi" report "A file wasn't able to be opened. It ends."

I then download Secure Lock Ware (ver260)from Buffalotech product support web page.  The installation of the program is completed successfully.

These are the steps I am taking:

1.  Start Secure Lock Ware - Select "Drive Encryption Setup" -->START

2.  Select "Configure Device Encryption" --> START

3.  I receive prompt to "disconnect the device/media to be encrypted and click OK".  I safely disconnect the USB device and click OK

4.  I receive prompt "Reconnect the drive that you want to encrypt and allow it to power up.  Then click OK."   I reconnect the USB cable and wait for the drive to be visible in "My Computer."  Then I click OK.  I do not receive any windows or prompts after clicking OK at the last prompt.

I also tried various suggestions from Buffalotech forum such as:  by disconnecting the drive and reboot your computer. Start Secure Lock Ware, run through the prompts, and only connect the drive after it tells you to "Reconnect", but this did not resolve the problem.

I can encryption files and folders but NOT the whole disk which is the major feature of this product that make my purchase decision.  Am I doing something wrong in the procedure or this brand new "HD-CX1.0TU2 DriveStation" is faulty?

Help please !
