Sending a LinkStation Disk Backup over the Web to another LinkStation

Hi,

I'm new to this and struggling with some setup issues.

I have two Buffalo LinkStation Pro Duo drives, model LS-W1.0TGL/R1-V3. One is physically located in a small business office environment attached to a 4 PC network and the other is physically located offsite, temporarily at my home. The LinkStation at the office serves as a network file server and a shared backup location for all four workstations. Memeo Backup is working just fine, and all the PC's are getting backed up regularly. The office file sharing process is also working fine.

My problem is that the unit at home is intended to be an offsite backup location for all the files on the office unit but I am having trouble getting the office LinkStation to send a disk backup to the remote home LinkStation.

Both LinkStations have access to the Internet (Web) however, from a remote location I can only "see" the Home unit and not the Office unit. I'm not sure why this is -possibly a router issue- but since I CAN see the Home unit (and its IP address) from the Office via the Web, I still ought to be able to send a backup to it, right?

But when trying to configure a Disk Backup Job I can't identify it as a remote backup destination object even though I have entered the IP address for the Home unit in the "Add Link Station" configuration menu plus I have entered the Home unit password in the "Disk Backup" menu.

Can someone steer me in the right direction to achieve my offsite disk backups?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

I have the same issue as the original post, a Linkstation Pro at the office and one at home for offsite backup.  The office has a hardware VPN router which I connect to through the client software.  I can browse the shares and access the admin interface.  The office Linkstation is aware of the home Linkstation.  I just can't setup the backup.

I suspect the problem is I am connecting on the client software and the office Linkstation's backup (rsync) is unaware of or unable to connect to the home Linkstation.  Can anyone verify or help?

Try manually adding the remote Linkstation in the Disk Backup->Add Linkstation menu

The Linkstation 1 already has Linkstation 2 in its list.  I have also manually added the the IPs each Linkstation in the other's list.  Is it possibly a firmware issue?  The firmwares are different on the Linkstations.

Hi

I know this is a very old thread, but it is the closest thing I could find to my issue.

I have two LS-WTGL/R1-V3 firmware 3.07

I have created a disk backup folde in each of the link stations, and in each of them I have added the public IP of the other one to the linkstation list.

I use NAT in the routers between the Internet and LAN.

In the firewalls I have opened ports 8873 and 22939.

The remote Link Stations are visible to each other in the link station list.

However, when creating a disk backup job the remote link station does not shop up in the "Destination Backup Shared Folder" drop down.

The destination Linkstation needs to have a public IP address for the backup to work. It cannot be connected through a router, unless the router allows the Linkstation to have it's own public IP address. The reason for this is that the destination Linkstation's backup software gives its own IP address to the source Linkstation. If the destination is on a private address, the source Linkstation will not be able to route to the destination.
