Recently I have taken a Buffalo Drivestation 1TB (HD-CE1.0LU2) and I could configure it both as USB and NAS initially. But I had not transferred any file to that. And after a week, I am not able to access the drive anymore through USB or NAS. My Windows XP is not able to recognize the drive as USB anymore. I tried to install software from CD but no luck. But I can access the drivestation page from browser through ip. But it shows blank for "HD used space". I tried "Start Disk Check" option from Disk Management in buffalo page from browser but it takes long time and never finishes. I doubt if the disk is corrupted. Please let me know how to rectify it.

Unfortunately it sounds like you need to format the drive due to file corruption.  Click on disk management in the web interface and just click "disk format".

I tried formatting the disk from Disk Management. But I am getting "General Error" message. Please help !!!

Update the firmware and try it again.  If it doesn't work I would contact support for a replacement.
