Just checking to see if anyone has been able to get this to work?

We've got the feature enabled, and our devices running 1.06 firmware now, still no go.

We've been trying since firmware 1.02 and no luck.

Please advise, thanks!

The spin down is after 20min without activity (you can not set the time, it's fix preset on 20min). It means activate the feature, make sure there are no request in the network for the TS, like some connection keep alive signal or what ever. After 20min the unit should spin down. Works for me on 1.05.

Hi rinthos, I'm sorry- I was wrong. I thought it works but in fact it does not. I tested the TS III and no matter what recent firmware I install the spin down does not seem to work. I'm in contact with the European support about that one. So far no news.

I tried different settings, languages and so on and of course I disabled everithing what could interfer. Maybe the main problem is that the main part of the OS is on the drive. It means it only works if there is no network traffic and no activity in OS for 20min.

No worries, I appreciate your follow-up.  I'm a bit worried that the drives are getting a bit excessive load/unload cycles given they seem to be WD green's and I hear every 10 seconds.

@Buffalo Support,

Would it void my warranty if I replaced the shipped drives with WD Blue drives to test whether this has any impact on the spindown issue (And then revert to the WD Green drives that came w/ after the testing validation)?  Just wondering if there's anyway I can rule out the drives that shipped w/ the units.

Thanks

rinthos,

Swapping hard drives would not void your warranty, but obviously we cannot support getting the firmware onto the new drives. You're a smart guy, you should be able to figure it out :)

I'll even give you a couple hints: TFTP Recovery, and Force Firmware

@Colin137

LOL you give me too much credit, but yep shouldn't be too bad.  Worst case i revert back to the originals.

I was actually thinking (since mirrored set) just sparing one out, once it resync's/rebuilds the other.  Will kick this off tonight and will report findings by the end of the week.

Thanks for the clarification sir.

Just wanted to clarify: swapping hard drives doesn't void the warranty, but we obviously cannot warranty the new drives either. So if the shell dies, we can replace it under warranty, but you would still need to provide the original drives.

Understood and again thanks for the clarification.

Thankfully my hdd supplier is co-located, so if these temp/test drives die, i just bug the break-fix team in the morning.

But i guess I can append this disclaimer "Don't try this at home". ;)
