HD-HTGL/R5 has been running well for 3 years (XP Home, SP2). Just updated to latest (v2.16) firmware without issue. I would like to increase the capacity to as high as system will support. A web search including this forum is yielding conflicting information as follows:

http://forums.buffalotech.com/buffalo/board/message?board.id=0101&message.id=3133&query.id=22082#M3133" target="_blank">http://forums.buffalotech.com/buffalo/board/message?board.id=0101&message.id=3133&query.id=22082#M3133

To further confuse the issue, I found a wiki article that stated it would only support over 4x500GB drives by performing a long list of instructions including installing 3rd party firmware.

Can anyone give me a definitive answer here before I invest in 4, 1TB WD's?

Thanks,

Bob in OC, CA

As far as I know, this NAS was never sold as a 4TB unit. Meaning that Buffalo never tested the 1TB drives or it wasn't sufficient enough to support. BUT I have not seen to many people attempt it (or at least heard the results).

This is not the definitive answer you are looking for but I hope it helps!

This device wasn't able to be tested with 1TB HDDs because it was too costly to have 4x1TB IDE HDD and therefore not commercially viable. You're welcome to try but we don't have any support options for it.

Hi Bob,

Did you ever manage to find a definitive answer to your question or have you successfully upgraded?

I want to upgrade from 4x250GB to 4x1TB but don't know whether it work.

Thanks.

John.
