My external HD-PE320U2 hard drive fell down twice on a carpeted floor. Now, I cannot open it with whatever USB cable I use. The computer can recognize the device, but it cannot read the files in it when I access it through My Computer. I have not used it since then. It was 2 days from now since I discovered that it is not working. My only concern is how to recover the files in it.

That is likely a damaged hard drive. I'd recommend contacting us at

https://www.buffalotech.com/data-recovery

**A single copy of data, even on a RAID array, is NOT a backup! Hard drive failure is not a question of IF, but WHEN! Don't take my word for it, take Google's!**

The HDD is 4 years old and don't covered by warranty anymore. Is there any service available locally at Dallas? I have several very important files on it.

I suggest contacting ACE Data Recovery  https://www.datarecovery.net/us/tx/dallas-tx-data-recovery.aspx. One of our clients use them to get data back from failed 1TB Linkstation couple of years ago.
