OK,  I am confused I purchased two linkstations quad to allow for local backup and then to do a remote backup for disaster recovery to a different location not connected by a VPN, i.e over the internet.

I saw lots of chatter that this was a problem several months back, I am wondering if anyone has been able to make this work?  The office uses a Linksys WRT610N router.  The linkstation can be connected by usb if need be but right now it is connected via lan.

The remote Linkstation (backup destination) needs to have its own static public IP address, and TCP ports 873 and 8873 need to be accessible from the Internet.

Then configure the local Linkstation (backup source) to identify the public IP of the remote Linkstation in the Web Interface: Disk Backup->Add Linkstation.

Ah just what I was looking for, I will try this out tomorrow thank you!

OK next question, I setup both Linkstations and routers as described.  From the source I can ping the router.  64.128.16.7

Now when I try to setup the backup on the source, I added the backup as directed in your post.

I then click on disk backup.  The system spins a minute looking for linkstations.  Then I am presented with the Job Scheduler.  I click on Job1,

enter the info up top, but below where it says to select source and target it is grayed out.  There is a drop down menu that allows me to select the source folders and the name of the file server but it does not do anything.

Question: To make sure I added the linkstation correctly besides the IP @ 64.128.16.7 do I need to add the ports :873  :8873 somewhere?

What am I doing wrong?

The remote Linkstation ITSELF needs to have a public IP, since the backup software reports the Linkstation's IP to the destination.

To answer your question, you only need to provide the IP address of the remote Linkstation.

I left out something important... in Shared Folder Setup, the shares that you want to back up to need to have Disk Backup checked under Shared Folder Support.  Sorry about that.
