Terastation hogging WAN bandwidth?

ts-xe8.0tl/r5 unit has been working great as a DLNA server for months now, but over the past few weeks, I noticed a spike in bandwidth on my network. On an unrelated note, I shut down my Terastation yesterday (thunderstorms and I don't have a UPS). After doing so, the next day I noticed our bandwidth usage went way down.

I only use the device to "serve" video files to our various devices, so wouldn't that be happening over the LAN? Why would the TS use so much WAN bandwidth? (I don't have web access enabled or anything else.)

Any clues appreciated.

I switched from a 60 min refresh interval to Synchronize I/O and now the bandwidth usage is way down. Makes no sense to me, but posting just in case that provides a clue.

Anyone? This issue is still happening. Any chance the Terastation is "phoning home"?
