TS5400R00E hangs after fw update

A few months ago I updated the fw on a TS5400R00E that I need to repurpose.  Now, if I change the any settings it hangs with the "Updating .." and the setting I'm trying to update and it has to be rebooted to clear it.  It looks ok at the login page but as soon as I log on the message appears and I can't do anything. So for example it's been hung updating the ip on a second NIC for 2 days.  Could have (should have?) done it through NAS Navi but didn't.  Maybe my bad.  But it was fine before the fw update.

It also seems stuck on initialising the RAID so don't know if rebooting it now will screw the RAID up.  Don't care really - I can break it and rebuild it from scratch, there's no data on it yet but wary of messing with the disks from previous experience a few years ago with one of these.  NasNavi shows:

Notice:
I17: Resyncing RAID array 1... (2007/11/01 00:06:35)
I32: A new drive has been detected. (2007/11/01 00:09:10)

The date is wrong following the factory reset, I have reset it though!

Also - I can't reboot it because it thinks it's in failover mode when it isn't.

It would be good if there was an option to reboot and to do a factory reset through the Navigator app.  The problem I have is I'm in the UK and my NAS is in the US, used for iSCSI storage on one of our servers there.  It's not on the main network so I have to rdp to the server to manage it.  New fw is v4.06.  The time differences mean it takes forever to get it rebooted, and I finally got a factory reset done a few days ago after 2 weeks of waiting.

It would also be good in the Navi to have a view of what's actually displayed on the front screen.

So I have some questions and I really hope there's a solution out there somewhere:

  • Does anyone know how to mitigate the hangs - it's driving me nuts!
  • Is it possible to remote reboot without logging on?
  • Is it possible to do a remote factory reset?
  • Can we get ssh and a remote cmd session on a TS?
Many thanks.

<EDIT>
Just read the pinned item at the top of the page about the date issue in the current fw defaulting to 2007 - is that causing my problems?  Certificate issues?  I did manage to get teh date and time set correctly after the factory reset but still having issues.

Updating to fw v4.10 today to see if that fixes my issues.
