Hi all

I have a 2 x 2tb RAID1 Buffalo Linkstation LS-WXL

When logging in to the browser page for the NAS it prompted me to update firmware as new firmware was available.

I actioned this on Saturday night.

Logged in remotely on Sunday and the NAS Navigator is saying Emergency Mode, Disk 2 has too many bad sectors/??

Before i do anything to this, can anyone advise on what to do to get back online as have over 1tb of data on there which was all working perfectly way pre firmware update?

Ill be onsite this afternoon to try and fix, my obvious thought was to remove Disk 2 and power on the NAS to see if it will boot with just Disk 1 in?

Any help would be greatly received as have a lot of important data on the drives!

What RAID mode are you using? Is the data on the unit needed or do you have a backup?

Thanks for the reply Davo.

Its a 2 drive RAID 1 setup.

Yes data is required as last backup September!

If you are sure its RAID1 then replace the disk showing the bad sectors, update the firmware and then rebuild the RAID.

I wont have another disk until 2 days, in the meantime could i remove faulty disk, install firmware then access data with only one disk?

Then when second disk arrives, insert and rebuild RAID?

Just to let you know i pulled out the disk reported to have bad blocks (Disk 2), powered on the NAS and after about 5 minutes of LED activity, appeared in the NAS Navigator and can now log in to the browser page and access data!!

Phew!!

Thanks Davo!

Now running a full backup and ordering another 2tb NAS Drive.
