Hello fellow forumers. First off I'd like to say Hello and it's my first post on Buffalo forums.

Before I get into my question I just want to be clear this isn't a rant and rave or request to be spoon fed it is simply me asking to have a very clear explaination without starting a flamefest on how to fix a Buffalo Link Station that has 6 blinking lights.

If I get it to work I will write up a very detailed how-to on how to do this because it seems that everyone seems to have an answer on how to get it done but there always seems to be steps missing or little tidbits of information missing. So if someone can help me out it would be great and I'll help the community in return.

The issue: I had this Buffalo Link Station QV8 0TL NAS device with 4x 2TB drives. I decided that I wanted to replace the 4x 2TB with 4x 1TB so that is what I did. The 4x 2TB are formatted and no longer have the proper partitions on them so I cannot put them back inside the NAS. So for all intents and purposes assume that all 8 drives are completely blank and I decided I only needed 4TB instead of 8TB.

Before changing the drives I changed the IP address of the NAS, but unfortunately, I cannot remember the IP.

When I boot the NAS I get the red light flashing 6 times.

What I have done: I have followed the instructions that are a little scattered out over the Internet on changing my IP to 192.168.11.1 and running the TFTP server but it does not work. It says accepting requests but stays stuck there.

Yes my firewall is turned off / I also went the extra step to turning the firewall on and creating rules in the firewall to allow port 69 to accept in and out connections for both TCP and UDP. ---- Still does not work.

This particular NAS does not have a reset button. I cannot find anywhere on the Internet if there is a button sequence to reset it.

I have booted the NAS by holding the function button and then pressing the power button and repressing the function button. The lights flash blue until I get my red light flashing 6 times again.

The unit is not defective as it was working perfectly fine before I formatted the drives, it's not a hardware fault, the NAS simply does not boot up because the RAID is gone on the drives and it doesn't know what to do.

The Question: What is the proper / correct way to go about fixing this dead NAS. What are the proper tools I need, where can I find these tools, what is the proper sequence to use them so I can get the NAS back up and running.

Again, I'm not asking to be spoon fed, I would ideally like someone to give me a way on how to do it. I am fairly certain that if you point me to a thread that has a solution I already saw it and it is most likely missing some kind of step or it is in German and google translate missed out key features.

I normally wouldn't post on a board unless I'm out of options, so if someone has a real confirmed working way to get the NAS back up and running it would be fantastic.

Thanks in advance!

Hello forumers
So after 8 days of being on the top page and 41 views but no response can I assume it is very safe to say that in this current state the NAS is in it is broken and there is no concrete tested and true way of reviving this device?

Has it become a paper weight?

Thanks!

davo
