Hs-DH1000GL worked fine for the longest time.
Drive could not be seen on the network.
Checked drive, noticed fan was not working.

Talked to support, they said update firmware you shroud be fine. Gave me advise on a new unit which I purchased and have not yet opened box.

tried updating firmware on hs-dh1000gl updated successfully, but waiting for reboot 360 seconds quit or retry message kept coming up.

not sure if drive itself is cooked or what.

I don't want to damage the drive and have the full intent to send it to recovery service to extract data.

my question is the following:

A. is it possible the controller on the hard drive is bad and I can simply change out the controller if I find the identical or almost identical 1TB Hitachi type hard drive ?

B. Is it possible that the linkstation itself could be faulty in some way that is stopping the successful reboot of the drive through the linkstation? Maybe since the fan is dead could that be holding it back or some other electrical problem in the case enclosure of some sort?

C. Can the data in the drive be seen by another link station or terra station since I have a few of them
I have:
Old Buffalo Link Station white case still working great
HS-DH500-GL working great
ls-wtql1a2 working great
terra station 1400 unopened

any advice would be appreciated .

wondering if I can try a few more possibiities before hard drive repair / data recovery from professional

What error is the nas navigator showing? Any error LED on the unit itself? Have you tried forcing the firmware onto the unit?

Noticed no errors lights the first couple of tries.
when I had the case apart and tried it again I did get some flashing of red lights and beeps right around the time that the firmware upgrade software was waiting for the reboot after it gave several successful messages that firmware upgraded.
