We have TeraStation TS1400D with 4 x 3TB drives. Firmware version is 1.40-0.03
I'm trying to create RAID5 array with 3 disks and disk no. 4 as spare.
I can't find setting anywhere where I can add spare disk. It was really easy to do before. I can only add disk no. 4 to existing RAID5 array, but no spare disk option.
Is spare disk option removed completely now?

I have the opposite problem - I can't extend my array, but can set it as a spare disk - my disk appeared as "spare" after I formatted it using the GUI.

hotspareproblem

I have encountered the same problem.  Bought a new 1400 recently intending to use the 4th disk as a hot spare but could not find the settings and it was not discussed in the manual.  I wrote to tech support and they said the 1400 is not capable of having a hot spare and sent me a pdf of what they said were web site pages.  I replied back with the web site pages for the 1400 that currently and expressly indicate it has hot spare capability.  They replied back that those pages are in "error."  However, I purchased the 1400 after reading the web materials and  with the intent to use Raid 5 with a hot spare and am bothered that they simply say their web pages are in error.  How many other people have purchased the 1400 with this expectation based upon their web site materials?
