well, I noticed that pressing the power button on my new     WXR-1900DHP has the router go through some sort of shut down process. Does anyone know what exactly is happening during this process and if the router losing power without shutting down correctly can cause any issues? I am worried because I lost power the other day.

It shouldn't cause a problem. It is true that using the power button to turn off the router will cause a "graceful" shutdown, but the OS on the router should withstand a power loss without any problems.
