FW update to 1.71

I have three LS-WXL duo NAS. and all were displaying the message about the new FW availability...
So I logged on to the web access page for each in turn and clicked the "New Firmware Available" link.
In the usual Buffalo tradition nothing went as simple as it should have...

One unit did as expected and a new tab opened on the maintenance page with a button to click for the download/install to start.. this followed through the whole process and just stayed at the "after the update is completed, the unit should be restarted"... I left it alone for 30mins at that screen and without any change decided to manually restart it.. and after a restart it was happily setup with FW 1.71.

however the other two units were not going to lie down and play along as easily..

after several clicks on the "New Firmware Available" link no extra tab appeared, I thought perhaps I should do a restart, but after a restart or two of both units, still the same.. they were not going to play along..

I downloaded the FW update zip file from here and ran though the process manually.. and this time the unit was rebooted automatically, but spent a loooooooong time on the "LinkStation rebooting" stage.. so I just sat and watched the two green lines make their way across the dialogue box for about 30mins..
Note: the install notes say NOT to try to access the unit while the update is running...

So in the usual fashion with Buffalo gear, as I have experienced, there is much stuffing around but in the end it should be Okay.. and I hope to end up with all three units running the new FW.. "fingers crossed"

I'm getting a spinning wheel with "Updating of the firmware has started."

It's been going for hours!
Now I'm wishing I'd dowloaded the FW manually.
