I have spent a fair amount of time trying to set up my NAS and can confess its been quite a challenge

I seem to have made all my folders and permissions correctly now (Took about a week) .

The main problem that I'm experiencing now is the transmission folder.

For some reason when i download a torrent file all is great apart from when i try to delete the file from the transmission folder or move it to another folder.

I have checked double checked and even restored the link-station and also formatted the drive as i thought it may have been corrupted , but unfortunately whatever i try to do i get the message No authority to write to the specified path.

This is my setup below hope you guys can help.

Hi.
I have the same problem. I can move downloaded files as long as they're not in a subfolder, but any folders created need root access. Has this been solved? It is a huge issue with the ability to use transmission, and I will return my linkstation (LS220D) if it is not solved as a (working) bittorrent client is a must for me.

Whats your fw version? Do you have permissions on the folder.

FYI don't take this as an insult or anything, I'm just saying, if your going to threaten to return a unit. Know this. The forum isn't for right away answers or critical assistance. You need to call the support this is the case. The forums is more where advance users help other users. The Mods help out as well when they are able to. Can't really get upset at something if your waiting for something to happen instead of extinguishing all your resources.
Units I own: TS-XL, TS-WXL, LS-WVL, TS-RXL,  TS5400, TS-RVHL,

I don't work for Buffalo but i do love there products enough to help people

The ownership issue remains with 'transmission' on, in my case, the LS220D (2x2GB) with the latest firmware (1.62-0.04).

There is a secondary issue with 'transmission' which may be related - it does not persist its settings between reboots.  This has two effects:

  • Settings such as bandwidth throttling and scheduling revert back to the default after a restart.
  • The application is unaware of what torrents it has downloaded, and re-enqueues all torrents again - the prior download appears to be recognised when 'transmission' revisits the torrent.  However, this may mean that if you "Trash Data..." one of these false-enqueued torrents, it may not delete the prior download and you'll get a few more GB of unremovable data on the NAS.
  • Any seed ratio metrics are lost - the client restarts seeding torrents which have previously reached the desired seed-ratio.

I previously had a LinkStation which ran a different bittorrent client (utorrent?), and 'transmission' as installed appears to be a severely retrograde move by comparison.

There is *no* reason why this application should need to be running as 'root' - the fact that it is should be treated as a security concern.

I'm having the same issue.

Anyone have any idea how to fix this?

I'm logged in as the default admin user.

Having suffered from the same problem mentioned here and a few other posts in the forum I have been trying to recover my transmission file space without enabling root access. Finally I managed to get the space back via a workaround.

Basically I copied all the downloaded files from the transmission folder. Then I turned off transmission's association to the parent of the transmission folder. Then I deleted the parent folder. I then created the parent folder and associated transmission with it.

Good luck to everyone. :)

I have a similar problem with my LS441DE 4-Bay NAS.  There's some folders that I just cannot delete at all.  I have tried deleting with Windows 7, Mac OS, and iPad.  It has to do with permissions I'm betting.  I am admin, and have set permissions to read/write.
