TeraStation Pro WSS POST ERR:0400

So my client's TeraStation Pro WSS rebooted after applying the latest batch of Windows updates this morning and he got a POST ERR:0400 on the LCD display. Buffalo tech support tells him to do a recovery using the USB key shipped with the unit. I get woke up at this point and contact Buffalo tech support and ask them which update is the culprit and they say 'we have nothing to do with windows update'. I explain that I am aware of that fact but I'd like to know which update they are claiming corrupted the WSS unit so we don't reapply it after the recovery (actually wiping, re-configuring and THEN recovery but I digress) and he again responds about it not being their problem. I ask what does the POST ERR:0400 mean and he tells me 'it is an http bad request error'. I ask him how can a WSS based NAS LCD screen display a browser web error before it loads windows (much less at all) since it is hung on power on and he tells me I don't understand the error. I ask to speak to his supervisor and he informs he that there is no supervisor but there is tier 2 tech support but as he is part of tier 2  I'd still be speaking with him. He refuses to discuss the matter any further until the device is recovered. My client claims the tech he spoke with indicated this was the fifth call just this morning about the POST ERR:0400 issue on TeraStation Pro WSS units but I'm sure it has nothing to do with Buffalo.

Does ANYONE have any idea what actually caused this crash or have a solution other than sell this POS unit on eBay to some poor unsuspecting schmuck and buy a WSS based NAS made by Western Digital or Seagate?
