Okay, so I'd like to be able to access my NAS from my home PC. I currently operate a business and I purchased this NAS some time ago. Is there anyways that I can share the NAS or connect directly to it from my home PC?

Thanks for your help.

Use SMB for local access or FTP for remote access.

What is SMB and how exactly do I enable it?

SMB: The Server Message Block (SMB) Protocol is a network file sharing protocol, and as implemented in Microsoft Windows is known as Microsoft SMB Protocol. The set of message packets that defines a particular version of the protocol is called a dialect. The Common Internet File System (CIFS) Protocol is a dialect of SMB. CIFS is the protocol you are using to access the share files most likely. So if CIFS is like that SMB is just another version of that but the way its used is a little different. Best thing is to find a you to video so you can get a better understanding of it.

Here is the manual, not sure if it has this feature or not, If Davo says to use that feature for this unit then its probably there :http://cdn.cloudfiles.mosso.com/c85091/TeraStation-Manual-v5.5-web.pdf
Units I own: TS-XL, TS-WXL, LS-WVL, TS-RXL,  TS5400, TS-RVHL,

I get the basic jist of the how its going to work. I'm not exactly sure on how to get this working. There's nothing in the control panel of the teradrive that remotely talks about what you guys are suggesting to do.

I'm pretty sure this model isn't meant to be accessed remotely from what I am seeing from the control panel.

If you want to access the unit remotely use FTP like Davo said, Page 25. http://cdn.cloudfiles.mosso.com/c85091/TeraStation-Manual-v5.5-web.pdf

If you dont know how to enable FTP and then setup Port forwarding on your router and test the FTP connection Internally and externally, your going to have a hard time doing this. Just enable it on a folder and then download a ftp client and see if you can access it internally. If so setup Port Forwarding and then have someone outside your network or you can go outside your network, (use a cell) something outside the internal network to test and see if its accessible externally.

SMB is for Internal only, I now see what Davo means. SMB/CIFS is what its using for Internal connection via the share folder path. I was thinking he was talking about the SMB option some units actually have which works different from the CIFS.
Units I own: TS-XL, TS-WXL, LS-WVL, TS-RXL,  TS5400, TS-RVHL,
