HD-LC4.0U3 Not Showing Up in My Computer

Hi -

I just purchased the HD-LC4.0U3 External HHD (DriveStation) - 4.0TB.  I plugged the power supply from it into the wall and the USB cable into my computer's USB port.  The drive is quietly humming away while the yellow power light is on.

There was no new hardware detection or any indication the drive was recognized.  It does not show up in the My Computer list nor in Disk Management.  It DOES appear in Device Manager under Disk Drives and Properties indicate it is enabled and working properly.  My BIOS recognizes it under the boot order section.  I am unable to access the drive in any way.  What could be wrong?

I have tried a different USB port, plugging and unplugging it, restarting computer and nothing works.

I have Windows XP with Service Pack 3 - 32bit
I have another USB external WD drive working fine and has been for some time.  Could there be a conflict with it?
Other USB devices are recognized immediately.

Any help would be appreciated.

On the side of box, in tiny print, it states "HDD reformatting required".  I downloaded, installed, and ran diskformatter2 120.  Within two minutes, or so, I had the drive formatted and show up on my system.  I saw that looking around for help, but did not think it would work if my computer wasn't recognizing the drive in the first place.  All is well now.  Hope this helps anyone else.

Now, why do we have to answer IQ questions to post???
