Hi,

I set up 5 User via Web-Admin.

Every User get his own Folder with Write & Read access and Read only on every other Folder on my NAS. So the best way for me is to use the Groupaccess (by default hduser) for the Read only so when i Register new User they became automatic access with no set up. For the Write & Read access i drop his name into Write & Read. But when i test it the user became no Whrite permissons. So is the sequence of getting access on the nas first by name and then Group so i lost my whrite permission because iam in the group hdusers?. Other way is to set every name into the right permission but when i add new user i must add his name on every Folder or i add a group for every user but this is needless in my mind. Change sequence first group then by name. Or i made something wrong :)

sorry for my bad english

kevin

When setting permissions you do not want to use any of the defualt users or groups, you want to create your own. Alos, you can only set Users OR Groups but not both at the same time for one folder.

That can't be true. It is possible to choose users and groups. But it is a constant source of conflicts if you have a user in a group and selected the very same for additional permissions. The LS follows the Linux rules. It means the user gets always the LOWEST permission rights.  For example:

You want the group "readthestuff" with read only permissions. User "Uploader" is member of "readthestuff" but you want to give him write permission. As a typical Windows user you would just add the user "Uploader" to the same folder with write permission and wonder why it does not work. Because the user already is "read only" in the group it is not possible to raise him to a writer. It is as it is.

This is probably what the mod meant. Never use Group and USER permissions for the SAME user ON ONE FOLDER because it will lessen the hapiness of your IT life. Otherwise it is possible to use groups and users for one folder. In our example you would remove the Uploader from the group readthestuf, leave the group on r/o and add user Uploader for r/w permissions- works fine.

PS> As Kevin mentioned, better create your own users and groups and forget the default groups and do not use the admin user if avoidable.

Ok, Thanx

So the only way to solve this is add permissions by name.

ecsample: Peter want to use my nas on lan.  I add him and he became a folder with r/w by name. The other users r/o by name and his name to r/o on every other folder. When Dana want an Acc too i must add her name on every folder on the nas. When i have 30 Folders or more its very annoying :P

Thats the reason why i think with the default groups. Then: Dana want an acc i set up an acc make a folder for her set her name on r/w and the default

group r/o and all other users became atomatic access to this folder with no whrite permissons.

But it is like it is^^ in germany we say "Der Drops ist geluscht":)

thx for all responses
