I have tried it all. Every single attempt to backup my pro-duo to my ls-mini ends up with this error.

-------- BEGIN BACKUP 2009/02/01 11:10:12 array1/E-Books -> LS-WSGL479@array1/E-Books --------
@ERROR: auth failed on module array1_E%2dBooks
rsync error: error starting client-server protocol (code 5) at main.c(1296) [sender=2.6.8]
-------- END BACKUP 2009/02/01 11:10:17 array1/E-Books -> LS-WSGL479@array1/E-Books --------

regardles of which file I try to backup. Any recomondations? Maybe there is something I didn't try. They both have newest firmware.

I will run this in a test lab here, what firmware are you running on both units?

Okay interesting.  I've finaly got it to backup by changing the file structure. Unfortunately the change totaly breaks the media server.If my file structure is like this:

\\Pro-duo\Media\Music\ , \\Pro-Duo\Media\Movies\    etc...etc...  Media server works flawlessly with PS3 but will not backup to the ls-mini.

If my file structure is like this:

\\Pro-duo\Movies , \\Pro-Duo\Music, Then backups to the LS-Mini work flawlessly but Media server to PS3 is broken. The problem lies with the fact that though the twonky settings let you pick multiple directories they are limmitted to be within the directory that is chosen in the buffalo settings. therefore if I chose Movies as the directory twonky will only point in my movies directory therefore no music will be served. A temporary fix for me is to have my music and movies files duplicated. One for backing up the other for serving. This is very wastefull of space but will suffice till a fix is presented.

   I guess nothing ever became of this.

this appears to have gone nowhere......... fast.

Did you try re-initializing the unit to fix the PS3 issue?  Had a user do the same thing and he stated it worked.  Go to the web admin->Maintenance->Initialization->Restore.
