I have had my HS-GH500GL for some time now and it has run faultlessly. Up until Wednesday (6th May 2009).

The symptoms of the fault are as follows:

The Linkstation runs up OK with no fault codes and the power and Link/act light green.

Occaisonaly the Link/act light will flash at the same time as the corresponding light on the router.

However attempts to connect using existing shortcuts from a windows XP SP2 and a Windows XP SP3 Machine all fail with a message saying I don't have permission. It also says "Network path cannot be found"

I cannot map a new drive as the linkstation does not appear in Windows Explorer "Entire Network"

I cannot browse the unit by using it's IP address and it does not show up as a client on the browser software of my Router (Linksys WAG354G-V2).

So, I pressed the reset button on the back for 5 seconds and the lights on the front all flash and the unit beeps at me, suggesting successful reset.

Still no change.

I reinstalled the NAS Navigator programme and selected a new install.

Now the Router can see the Linkstation as 192.168.1.65 which is in the correct range for my Network but the "I'm here" function does not work, the programme just sits there unresponsive for a minute or so.

I still cannot navigate to the Linkstation by any means.

The NAS Navigator screen shows the following info:

Host Name; HS-DHGL-EM3D£

Workgroup; UNKNOWN

IP Address; 192.168.1.65

Subnet Mask; 255.255.255.0

MAC Address; 00:16:01......etc

Firmware; -----

I would appreciate any help anyone can give me.

Well, I don't know what caused the problem, but after much depowering and repowering and resetting I managed to force a firmware update.

Hopefully this is a permanent fix (watch this space)

Grim: Glad to hear that worked for you and I hope that the device will continue operating normally :)
