Terastation Pro: An error occurred during backup

I have a Terastation Pro that has been setup as network storage for several years now (2007). It works great, we've been very happy with it.

This week, we decided to start backing up some additional data that is stored on the drive (totaling around 200GB, and always increasing). I bought a couple of 1TB external hard drives for the job (one will backup each week, and the other will be taken offsite by an employee, and then swapped each week).

I was hoping to use the built in disk backup tool for this. It seems pretty straight forward, but every time I start the back up (set to "immediately" - I intend to run it once a week after the initial backup) I receive a very vague error. On the "Home" screen, it says "An error has occurred during backup". Selecting that text takes me to the "Disk Backup" screen where I see a different message that says "An error has occurred". Selecting the Job lets me edit what content and how often that content is backed up, but never provides any additional details about the error.

I attempted to read the logs files, but they didn't give me any clear indication of the problem either.

First, I realized that the drives are NTFS format, and the Terastation requires FAT32. So, I reformatted the drive - same problem, only now the error appears faster than before.

Model: TeraStation Pro TS-HTGL/R5 1.10

Any help?
