Got the LS220DE today. Installed 2 1TB drives, 1 from a LS that failed disk1 but Disk2 is live now in slot 1, slot 2 contains same model from store.

It won't boot, the white power LED remains blinking fast. Is it trying to format the disk? How do I tell is it is doing anything? How long should I wait?

I followed that up to Step 6. It says there should be a RED Function LED after a few seconds of power flashing (which never stopped). It never got to the RED anywhere. I left it running overnight. No change. I read I may have to clean/partition the disk(s), but I have no way to do that. There is nothing I can find on how to do that externally, except to stick it in a PC or get a USB/SATA converter. I cannot get to the web interface and the Navigator can't detect it.

Today I'm going to Micro Center to get a LS210 with disks ready. If I can't get that to work, that's strike 3 for Buffalo. I'm also getting a router that has a USB3 and supports a mybook I can pick up closer to home.

Why is all this so difficult? Life is too short.

Instructions for cleaning the disks can be found here:

Yes, it does require connecting the drive to a PC in some manner.

The probable reason that your unit is not behaving as expected is because it's detecting an OS from another LinkStation on the drives and attempting to load that (incompatible) OS.
