Hello,

I have a Buffalo 2 drive NAS system that is set up as RAID 1 (Mirroring) that I use to store my pictures and videos for my home network.

If I were to pull out one of the drives and read it, will the actual picture and video files appear on that drive, or is it encoded somehow through the Buffalo software.

I am interested in keeping one drive off-site for an additional layer of backup, but was wondering if I just pulled one of the drives and replaced it with a blank drive, if that is an adequate way to keep an offsite copy.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Absolutely not, best thing to do in your case would be to schedule a backup to USB disk once a week/month and then keep the USB disk off site.
PM me for TFTP / Boot Images / Recovery files  LSRecovery.exe file.
