LAN access to Drivestation HD-CELU2

I have just purchased a  Drivestation HD-CELU2 and installed the driver software.  When I access the Drivestation via the USB, I can see the existing 'Share' directory under the root of the drive.  I can create directories under the 'Share' folder as well as directly under the root of the drive.

However, when I switch to the LAN interface, I can only see the directories 'Share' and below, ie. I can't see any other directory that I create under the root.

Is this correct behaviour?  I would like to be able to see all directories from the root below, not just those in 'Share'

My firmware is:

BUF-CELU2-1.4T3 LOADER 3.5 W1.7

Thanks.

When you're accessing the device are you accessing it by it's hostname or IP address?

Try accessing it by IP address and see if that makes any difference. Also, did you format the drive while it was in USB to NTFS? If you haven't that's okay otherwise you'll lose NAS functionality.

I've now tried accessing via the IP address and the behaviour is exactly the same as via hostname.

By way of clarification, if I do reformat to NTFS, why do I lose NAS functionality?

Because the operating kernel is stored on the FAT32 partition and if you format the drive you lose the operating kernel. There really isn't much else in the way of solution since these are simple devices. You could try reflashing the http://www.buffalotech.com/support/validate/?MTI2fGhkY2VsdTItMTQ3ZW4uemlw" target="_blank">firmware of the device or you could click the Reset button under Maintenance in the web user interface. Another things to check would be file/print sharing is enabled on your computer Control Panel->Network Connections->Local Area Connection Properties.

Just to get it right, if I do so (reflashing the firmware, click the Reset button under Maintenance in the web user interface), I might have the possibility to format the Drive to NTFS and still use the LAN-Mode?

Btw: the Support says my Serial number is wrong, isn't it the one on the bottom of the drive? (4552.....)

Formatting the device to NTFS will lose all LAN function. Where did you purchase this unit (i.e. which country?)

Q-Dog

I bought it in Germany.

hmm... will there ever be a solution to format the device to NTFS and still use the Lan function? Or is this utterly impossible?

Unfortunately, when the drive is formatted it also erases the firmware that is on that drive as well. I wouldn't say it's utterly impossible, but right now it's just a theory. At best it could be a work in progress.
