Linkstation Pro Duo: Unable to access files through Ethernet

Hello,

After rolling back from Vista 32 to Windows XP 32 SP3, I can't seem to figure how to access the files I have stored on the NAS (Linkstation Pro Duo, Firmware 3.09).

The drive is connected to my laptop with an ethernet cable (I've tried 3 of them).

I can access the Web Administration just fine, I can see the drive in NASNavigator,  but I can't get access to the files.

For instance, in NASNavigator,  when I click on Browse, I get "Could not open the shared folder. Confirm drive status.".

When I run the IP adress (which I get from NASNavigator) in Start > Run > //xxx.xxx.xxx.xx, Windows can't find it.

I am at loss as to what to do next, so any help will be appreciated!

EDIT: Added the firmware version.

It would be \\ipaddress not //ipaddress.

If it says "windows cannot find" then that is probably your issue.

Otherwise you would get something that says "Networking routing cannot be found" or some other similar error.

I have got the same problem. I bought my linkstation pro duo 2 weeks ago.

I can ping my linkstation pro duo, i can access via Web (to the administration-area), i can access via ftp to my shares. But i cannot connect via ethernet.

sometimes it works, sometimes not.

I have tried static IP-Adresses and added the dns-name of the linkstation to the hosts-file. I've got a valid routing and arp response.

And if you google "confirm drive status", you will see that there are other poeple with the same problem and no solution. And every post isn't older than a month. Might it be that this has something to do with the firmware 3.09???

kind regards - a completely disappointed buffalo customer!!!

EDIT: Btw it all worked fine before i configured the linkstation as RAID 1. Now i have got a chance of approximetly 10% that access to the nas works via normal windows-shares.

Setting the NAS to static IP and then accessing it through explorer will usually yield the same results whether or not you have/had a static IP. Keep the IP static but attempt access through the method described by Jason and post back your results.

i have tried \\dnsname and \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx - it doesn't work as i said before.

btw - it doesn't mean that the problem of ploum is solved just because he doesn't writes any more posts.

Honestly i don't think that that was the problem of ploum, because he tried to connect via NasNavigator and he didn't need to enter a correct IP-Adress in the commandline.

Is the File and Print Sharing in your OS enabled? Might explain the ping, FTP, etc. and why you can't access your shares. Check your Local Area Connection properties on your computer.

wolfgangK

yes - i have checked that already. i also disabled my firewall.

NasNavigator tells me that the linkstation is "resyncing" the raid

The nas is doing a raid-scan til 400 minutes - might that be the problem?

There is also the "i"-led blinking 8 times in a row. I've read the manual and it tells me what 1- to 7-times "i"-LED blinking means, but not 8-times!

FYI, I ended up re-installing Vista on that system for other reasons and I didn't get the error on any of the other XP systems, so, best of luck to you wolfgangk.

Thankyou!

i am trying to connect from Windows XP SP2. The real problem is that i have transfered a lot of importand data from my company to the nas and now i can only connect via ftp.

wolfgangK

For no reason it just started to work again. The Raid-Scan finished, so i think that was the problem - altough in the manual Raid-Scan is not described as a function so that you cannot connect to your nas in the meantime.

Nevertheless, thanks for your support.
