Cannot connect to LS_WVL/e after disk replacement

Using Mac.  Replaced disks with 1Tb disks and when started up, got the red emergency mode function light.  Downloaded latest software and firmware upgrades. When attempting to upgrade firmware it indicates no HDD partition.  Disks are formatted FAT32. I can see and ping the device from router but there apparently is an IP issue of some sort.  Tried restoring by method in manual but not sure I accomplished.  Not sure why when previously operating fine, the disk replacement caused all the trouble.  Must be something dumb I am doing.  Directions please
