Thanks for the reply. Maybe I should reword my question or explain what I'm trying to do, which is this...

The HD-QLU3 has 4TB drives. I want to create 2 8tb drives\partitions. One (8TB) primary for storage and the second (8TB) as a mirrored copy or back up of the primary. Hope this makes sense. Thanks in advance.

Delete the current raid. Make a raid 0 of drive 1 & 2. Then Make a raid 0 of 3 & 4. then setup a back up job from array 1 to array 2. Make sure that you use array 1 as your main storage. When you create a share you will have a option on what array to choose. I don't believe the unit has 0+1 raid, if it did you would choose that instead of doing all this but it doesn't.

Now that i told you how i believe you shouldn't do this. there is no real redundancy. I would at least stay with raid 5. either way you look at it, if one drive fails your on a limb. Here is the difference between what you want and raid 5.

you want: you can only lose one drive before you start to worry. the write and read speed should be faster vs raid 5. no real redundancy. "8TB"

Raid 5: real redundancy, more storage for use "12TB", dont have to check ever so often on backup logs to see if everything is getting backed up.

so there you go. my opinion and how to do what you want. ;)
Units I own: TS-XL, TS-WXL, LS-WVL, TS-RXL,  TS5400, TS-RVHL,
