Hello, I have problem with HD-H1.0TGL/R5.

Unprotected shares (accessible to everyone), setup as Windows+FTP are OK. Share can be mapped as drive letter in WindowsXP, and is functional over FTP too.

Protected shares with defined access only to specified users (does not matter if RW or Read-only), setup as Windows+FTP have this behaviour:

On WindowsXP is this share visible, but cannot be mapped as drive even correct username/password is given. There is always this error message:

"The network folder specified is currently mapped using a different user name and password. To connect using a different user name and password, first disconnect any existing mappings to this network share."

Just pretty clear, but there is no connected user(s) to this share. The share is right new, nobody should be connected from history (tried with many new shares too). PC restarted, Buffalo too, always the same.

If used this username/password via FTP, user is correctly connected with defined access rights.

At this point I have to say, protected shares are not accessible as network share even without mapping as a drive. WindowsXP popup login windows, but even if correct login is entered, no access is given.

This error is getting to be our nightmare, because only non-restricted shares are working, all users can access everywhere a do everything :smileymad:

Should anyone help in this forum before I post it to TechHelp? Thank you very much.

That is a windows location, disconnect all the network drives, then map them with "connect using a different username" option.  Also make sure to put in the same username for both protected and open shares.

Protected Shares on Link Station

I had exactly this same problem. Set up a protected share for an external user to get to it over the web. Could access it as this user over the web but never as my admin user or as this user when accessing locally. Came back every time with the "The network folder specified is currently mapped using a different user name and password. To connect using a different user name and password, first disconnect any existing mappings to this network share." error message.

However, I solved it! :smileyhappy:

I had a brain wave! I use my PC as an admin user i.e. I log on via a username and password. So I created a user in the Link Station with the same name and password as my local PC user and attached it to the group that had access to the protected share. No more problems! I can access the shared folder direct without the login box appearing.
