BUFFALO CS-WX1.0/1D Does Not Recognize External USB Drive

I have a 500GB usb drive connected to my BUFFALO CS-WX1.0/1D Cloudstor that is not recognize.  It is not listed under System -> Storage.  My Windows 7 computer sees the drive fine.  I've tested the usb port on the cloudstor with a flash drive and it works fine.  I've formatted the drive with the default NTFS file system like the manual stated, but it doesn't work.  Any ideas?  Thanks.
