Hi,

after trying a lot of hints found with Google:

Linkstation Pro Duo (LS-WTGL/R1) FW 1.09 still doesn't work with "Offline Files".

Patch "Buffalo_NAS_Vista_Support" is applied to the Windows machine.

The Device is not shown in the Sync Center and right click on the network drive (Z.) or any object in it (file or folder) will not show the context menu "make available offline"!

What is going wrong? Now I'm rather helpless...

Thanks in advance

Jochen

So everything is working fine besides using the microsoft sync program while the device is off??

rubbersoft

thanks for the quick reply.

sorry, but you missunderstood me.

when the device is on everything is working fine, exept that i can't use the device to add it as a synchronisation partner to a windows client.

So i can' use my data when i am on travel with my notebook (and sync again when i am back).

What I want is: have a folder on a share on the linkstation which is available offline via "offline files".

Thanks

Jochen

PS: sorry if it was not clear in the first post, i am german.

I am having the same problem... Is there a setting on the buffalo server that enables offline files? I have the LinkStation LS-QL Quad. I have tested with several Windows Vista and 7 ultimate. Previously I had an HP NAS and had the feature available. I also checked through Microsoft technet and have ensured all the features are correctly configured on the many OS systems. Any Help would be great thanks.

Great and what firmware version is on that NAS?  Please read the forum guidelines before posting in a dead thread.

Hi,
Thanks for the response and I apologize for not including more information. Should I have not posted on this thread? I would be happy to re-post if necessary...
I did check for updates on the firmware and it seemed to be the latest. 1.11 as shown in the below paste from system status page. My networks is using Microsoft's work-group with authentication set to "Delegate Authority to LinkStation"  (I didn't setup a domain controller at home) and I do have a mixed windows environment xp, vista (home premium and ultimate), and 7 (ultimate). Windows 7 and Vista Ultimate are the two machines I am trying to get offline files to work.
Recycle bin is enabled on the share.

Don't worry about it :robothappy: Well, offline files can get kind of sketchy and since you don't have a server environment at home there's really no need for the delegate SMB authority method.  If you're running Home Premium and Ultimate Vista you could try changing the NTLM permissions (should also work in Windows 7):

  • Go to the Control Panel
  • Administrative Tools -> Local   Security Policy -> Local Policies -> Security Options
  • In the  right panel find "Network security: LAN Manager authentication level"  double click it
  • In the pull down select "Send LM &  NTLM responses"

As to why the offline files aren't working (since you've enabled it for use on the NAS) I would check out the KB Article from Microsoft http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/mobility/learnmore/offlinefiles.mspx" target="_self">here for enabling in XP, http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Working-with-network-files-when-you-are-offline" target="_self">here for Vista and Windows 7.  I hope these help and if not, please post back. :robotvery-happy:

I had two issues. 1. Initially I could not get the "make files available offline" to come up when i right-clicked on a file. 2. Once I fixed problem 1, every time I tried to make a file available offline i got an error that it couldn't be made available since the file was in use by another process.

Solution to #1. Needed to disable access restrictions on the shared folder on the Linkstation
Solution to #2. Exit/Close NAS Navigator from the Windows tray (or just bloody uninstall it). For my version of Linkstation (LS420D) NAS Navigator "locks" the files out from being made offline. This was not happening with any of my previous versions just this most current version. Hope this helps.
