New LS-X1.0TL does not show up on network

We just got a new LS-X1.0TL (our first NAS) and followed the setup cartoons. I was NOT impressed by the picture-only setup directions!

Anyway, the NAS is connected to our router using the supplied Ethernet cable, and is powered up. The problem is that NAS Nav2 and the setup program from the CD cannot detect the LinkStation - I get the "LinkStation is not found" message. The LinkStation is connected directly to the router, and I have changed ports on the router. I am running Win XP.

After logging in to the router, I found that there is no IP associated with the NAS. I cannot find any separate power indicator on the LinkStation other than the green light that is associated with the Ethernet connection. I sent email to Buffalo's Support, but have gotten no answer.

I have disabled my AV, and the router's firewall is disabled.

Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions?

Connect it directly to the PC via ethernet cable, disable AV and firewall, reboot the NAS and see if the Nas Navigator can see it then.

I just bought one of these NAS and had it 3 days, i still cannot use it due to it always disappears. When i installed it the NAS showed up and i was able to configure web access, i no longer can use it because it does not stay showing up on the network. I am very unhappy with this and am needing help with this.
