LinkStation Mini Disconnects

We are a graphic design company and  have been using the LinkStation Mini for about two weeks to store our work. While working on our desktop on jobs, certain items used in the design process are linked to files on the LinkStation. We've been having a problem with the LinkStation disconnecting with no apparent reason (message states that "a server is currently unavailable").

 

Our IT guy advised that we should turn the LinkStation off, disconnect from network, turn LinkStation back on and then reconnect to network. At that point we have to restart one of the computers and then it works again.

 

Is there something we can do to keep this from disconnecting?

Maybe there is a conflict within IP addresses. Has the Linkstation a static IP address, or do you let it obtain an IP address automatically within your LAN?

You're on the right track Banjo. Setting the IP statically is a good step in the right direction. Secondly, Debbie you'll want to make sure that your computer is accessing the IP address of the device directly and not by Hostname. If you go into My Computer you should see what the drive is mapped by (ex. Share on '[Your NAS Name here] ([xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx])' Z: ) where x is the IP address of your NAS.
