Hey guys,

I'm planning on setting up a small media centre for my parents at their house.

The plan is to have a Buffalo Linkstation NAS connected to the router via ethernet.
And also a Boxee Box connected to a TV, with the aim being that it will stream video content (avi/mkv/mp4) from the NAS straight to the Boxee/TV.

Now I know that the NAS should have no problem allowing the Boxee box to stream content.

What I also what to know is, am I going to be able to do the following two things:

1. Access the torrent client on the Buffalo Linkstation REMOTELY (ie. from 60 miles away where I live) and download stuff for my parents?
2. Once the media has been downloaded onto the Linkstation, can I access the files REMOTELY to rename/edit/re-arrange them in folders before they stream it?

Just want to make sure that remote access to the linkstation both for file read/write access and initiating torrent downloads is going to be possible before I drop some money on this.

Many thanks for your help guys! :)

You can do all this but you have to setup the port forwarding correctly for BitTorrent and probably setup WebAccess to access the unit from you house or you can use Teamviewer to access a pc that's in the same network as the LinkStation and manage the files.

The default internal port for BitTorrent is 9090. what you want the external to be is up to you. Also you would need a ddns service to access the BitTorrent client over the web like Dyn-Dns.

In honest opinion just remote into their pc or another pc that they don't use and manage the downloads and videos that way. This way its less effort you have to do and more secure. Research Teamviewer with unattended setup and problem solved. Also if your using BitTorrent to download illegal movies i recommend not to as this is wrong and your ISP can see what your doing as you are not blocking there request to the LinkStation. They cant see inside the unit or the network but they can see all the files you download. Just thought i let you know.
Units I own: TS-XL, TS-WXL, LS-WVL, TS-RXL,  TS5400, TS-RVHL,
