I have a Link Station which is a HD-HGLAN 300 GB external network drive.
It has been working perfectly in my WindowsXP connected through a router.
But after I upgraded my computer to Windows8, it just disappear.
I tried to reinstall the Link Navigator untilities but it just does not recognize anything.

So I took the actual hard disk from the enclosure (or the case) and connect it via a IDE to USB adapter.
From the computer device management, it shows the hard disk (ie. disk 3), sees all the partition and they are all healthy, but not assigning any drive letter.
Also it does not show what kind of file system it is (ie. FAT or NTFS).
It shows the capacity of the disk and said it is 100% free which is strange because I have files in it.

Can someone please kindly tell me is this hard disk corrupted/dead?
Any solution?  I am very frustrated.

1. Its not and never was designed for Windows 8 however mine does would with Windows 8 but you need to run the change level security tool.
2. The file system is EXT3 which Windows cannot read, connect it to a Linux machine.
3. The device is probably 8+ years old, where is your backup?
PM me for TFTP / Boot Images / Recovery files  LSRecovery.exe file.

Thank you for your advice.  I have back-up but not up-to-date.
So there is no other way to retrieve back the data other than connecting it to a Linux machine?

But I remember when I first bought and use the hard disk, I have formatted it through windows XP.
So the format ext3 still exists even if I have formatted it through windows?

If I remember correctly, Windows XP uses a different Workgroup name in the network settings to Windows 8 and that maybe the reason why you can't access your Linkstation.
