I'm new to this game. I want connect my BR-816SU2 Blu-Ray drive through a E-SATA card on my desktop computer. I want to get the fastest/highest quality data transfer possible with my "old" machine. I will be using the drive most often to burn BD discs from my HD camcorder.

The mother board in my machine is is a Gigabyte GA-K8N51GMF-9. It has a PCI Express X1 socket available and a couple of regular PCI sockets empty also.

I'm RAID, JBOD, and NCQ stupid. I'm guessing that I want 3Gbps speeds via SATAII.

I think I'd like to have at least one internal SATAII and one external SATAII available. I've spent so much money on the new camcorder, MediaStation and Blu-Ray player, I can't go overboard on price. I don't want to get more than I need and over pay, but I also don't want to come up short either.

Any help is appreciated.

Also, does any particular brand of blank BDs work better with this unit single or double layer?

Thanx.

Marc

Have you purchased this product as of yet?

It said that the post failed so I'll try again. I ended up buying a :

Masscool PCE-SA450 SATA/IDE Controller Card - PCI-Express x1, 2 Internal SATA Ports, 2 eSATA Ports, 1 Internal EIDE Port, Low Profile

Do you know anything about this card? I haven't gotten it yet.

Also, is there any particular brand of blankBD discs that work best on this Buffalo unit?  The dual layer one are very spendy and I'd like to make as few coasters as possible.

Thanks,

Marc

I'm afraid that I don't know anything about that card. As far as the Blu-Ray discs go there isn't any particular brand that should work better than the other with the MediaStation. My best presumption is that as long as the card that you purchase has an eSATA connection then it should work with the MediaStation. I would post more information but I'm not entirely sure as to what ends or problems you're running into. :(
