Problem accessing TeraStation Pro 2.0TB NAS

I'm having a problem with my TeraStation Pro 2.0TB Network Attached Storage (TS-2.0TGL/R5). I believe the unit is running version 1.04 firmware.

After failing to fully boot up, I powered off and back on again and now it appears to have gone into EM mode because the display shows TS-TGL-EM. I know at this point I'm supposed to reload the firmware, but that just doesn't seem to be working. The firmware updater initially finds the Terastation at IP address 192.168.1.4 and shows the subnet mask 255.255.255.0 but when I click Firmware Update I get the message:

"TeraStation can't respond. Confirm whether TeraStation and this computer are belong same network segment. If this computer's firewall is enabled, please disable it. Firmware update is cancelled"

My computer's IP address is set to 192.168.1.2 and subnet mask is also 255.255.255.0, so I don't think the issue about being in a different network segment is the problem here. I have disabled my firewall.

I've also tried initialising the TeraStation by holding down the red init button for a few seconds. I had expected that would reset the device to use DCHP, but for some reason it still retains the original IP address 192.168.1.4 which I had originally assigned to it. I'm not sure if that is significant.

Would someone be able to suggest what I should do next to fix this?

Make sure that the NASNAVI is completely closed out when trying to update.  What version of the firmware did you get?

ChrisB

I believe the version of firmware being used was 1.04, but I can't access the unit any more to verify that because it's in EM mode. NASNAVI is not running. The only application trying to access the TeraStation is the firmware updater. I'm trying to upload version 1.04 firmware.

If I use a browser to try to connect to the TeraStation's management port at IP address 192.168.1.4 the connection fails.

Hi Chris

Did you ever fix this problem? I have more or less exactly the same issue with the updater.

Thanks,

Duncan

Hi Duncan,

I tried reloading the firmware again using a different computer, and this time it worked perfectly.

I'm not sure why it didn't work with the original computer. I did have my firewall turned off, but I suspect there may have been something else running on the machine that prevented it from working. All I can suggest is that you make sure there is absolutely nothing else running on the computer when you do the upload. Maybe try booting in Safe Mode with Networking.

Hi Chris

Thanks for getting back.

I eventually got it working by assigning to the Terastation a different IP address on a different subnet. That meant it routed through a different network card (I have 4 in the machine) and that must have been the correct one.

The Terastation had gone down and needed to be rebooted, so the IP address it came back up with must have been wrong, or perhaps it lost some routing information it needed.

Anyway, problem now solved!

Duncan
