I have already done that without success. The reason I tried it using admin everywhere is because I cannot log into the linkstation with any other user name than admin. I thought you said windows user name and password and linkstation user name and password must match.

joep229

are you saying that name and password of read/write user of shared folder in linkstation must match name and password of logged in windows user? If so, I have already tried this and failed. Found shared folder support . It is set to windows. found shared folder attributes. It is set to read/write.

Yes they must match, but you can't use the admin username.

OK, I am using joe as username in linkstation and joe as username in windows, Both with the same password. I still cannot access the shared folder.

Are you using the up-to-date firmware on the linkstation? If you are and it is still not working then it may be that your linkstation is not compatible with Windows 8 as that model is very old.

joep229

I am using firmware 2.10.  I can't seem to find anywhere that the linkstation is incompatible. Can you find that?

The firmware 2.10 is the latest version for that model, which was released in 2010, but the product was released in 2007 and is valid compatiable only upto Windows XP.

joep229

Did you find definitively that it is a compatibility issue? I checked with windows 8 compatibility. It says the HS-DH500GL is compatible. Are you saying that the 2.10 firmware is not? I guess that is my problem then.

I do know that Windows 8 has changed the way users are vaildated and as your linkstation has not had a recent firmware it will not have the changes required to do so by Windows 8.

Thanks for the help ratty. Since I seem to be doing everything right and it is not working, I guess it is too old.

You're very welcome. I can recommend the new Linkstation pro as I have one myself and I have it working fine with Windows 8.
